FPS Keuring Preparation Each year in the Fall, the annual inspections, sanctioned by the Dutch Friesian Registry (FPS) and by the Friesian Horse Association of North America (FHANA) take place at various locations throughout North America. These inspections, also referred to by the Dutch as "keurings" - pronounced "kerring" - provide Friesian horse owners and breeders with an opportunity to have their horses judged and rated by a jury of inspectors specifically chosen by the FPS Registry for their experience in evaluating the 'best of the best'. Not a competition, the keurings are a means by which a serious owner or breeder can have his/her horse(s) rated by the same standards used for the whole Friesian Registry. These standards include a thorough assessment of conformation (40%) and movement (60%). Horses are shown in hand on the triangle, at the walk and trot. The score earned by each horse is documented and retained on record with the registry for life. Wiebe first became involved with the annual Friesian Horse Inspections in Holland in 1979 and is experienced in preparing horses for this event.
