The
Dutch Harness Horse is a unique breed. It is a typical Dutch horse.
In earlier years, the Gelderlander Horse was mostly used for farm
work and on the weekends, the farmers took them to shows and
keuring's. Today's Dutch Harness Horse is a more modern type
Gelderlander. At right, the Dutch Harness Horse, Moneymaker, who was
recently sold to the USA.
A Dutch Harness Horse has to have a very upright neck, a high
trotting front leg, a very high trotting hind leg and has to have a
very good character to show himself in the ring. A Dutch Harness
Horse must "rize" in the front and "sit" on his
hind legs. They can also be used under saddle. They can be shown in
halter, driving and riding classes but only the highest, most
explosive trot will win . . . Years ago we made the Dutch Harness
Horse more beautiful and tried to get even more trot in them than
they already had, by using the hackney horse. That worked!...
Uddel
(v.Waterman x v.m.Balmoral) has the popular black color where the
Dutch Harness Horse is loved and wanted for. But they can also have
the colors bay, chestnut and gray.
After years and years of breeding, we now have the modern Dutch
Harness Horse. Many people are involved with this wonderful breed,
in Holland, as well as several other countries where they are being
used for different carriage- driving disciplines, such as Coaching,
Pleasure Driving and last but not least, Combined Driving. |
